The Compassion Fatigue Workbook is ready!

I didn’t give much thought to the fedex notice on my door on Monday. I was busy with the realities of returning to work after two blissful weeks in winter wonderland.

You know how it goes, the first day back? You think to yourself “wow, making school lunches isn’t such a big deal, why do I always complain about them?” and you speak to your children in a lovely calm voice because you are SO relaxed and, well, let’s not sweat the small stuff, shall we? This always amuses me because it happens in September and in January and it lasts about oh, a week or so. And then we’re back to being a normal family who get annoyed and stressed once in a while and I go back to being a mom who hates making school lunches. But let’s enjoy the glow while it lasts.

So, as I was saying, I finally got around to getting the fedex parcel yesterday and guess what it was? A beautiful box full of copies of my new book! It looks really lovely, thank you Routledge. Thank you also to my amazing generous reviewers: Babette Rothschild, Charles Figley, Laura Van Dernoot Lipsky, Laurie Anne Pearlman and Brian Goldman who took the time in their incredibly busy lives to write such thoughtful comments on the back cover. This is an exciting time and I’m looking forward to sharing the book with you all!

If you wish to get your hands on a copy of the book, there are several ways to do this:

You can order it online through Routledge Mental Health or Amazon. I get a higher royalty if you go through Routledge, fyi. Not that selling a book is a route to riches, but I plan on buying an extra foamy latte with my sales when I get that royalty cheque! Or maybe even taking a friend out to sushi or something. You can also order through our wonderful Toronto-based psychology bookstore Caversham Booksellers or pop into the store and get a copy the old fashioned way. Be sure to give Caversham a call first as I’m not sure whether they have received the copies yet.

If you are in Toronto or Kingston for our book launches, please drop by and say hi. The book launch in Kingston will be held on February 2nd (along with a free public lecture) and on March 1st in Toronto. 10% of all proceeds from the Kingston launch will be donated to a charity that focuses on mental health. (I know who they are but they haven’t given me the official ok yet so that’s why I’m being so cryptic.)

So that’s my news for today. Now I have to go make school lunches. :-)
